Having reported on a number of occasions in the Irish casino news that the US online casino market was about to open up and that companies such as 888.com were lining up joint ventures with established casino operators it comes as no surprise to read in Irish casino news reports that our very own Paddy Power is positioning itself to obtain a license in the State of New Jersey. The communications director from Paddy Power has been quoted in the Irish casino news as applying for a license without any firm commitment as to what the offering might be but it needs to be in a position to be ready. Paddy Power already has an online casino license for Nevada, the home of Las Vegas, but so far nothing has been started. The Irish casino news reports that Paddy Power does have a small team working in the USA to find opportunities and this appears to be one of those. It is unlikely however that a full range of casino games will be permitted which could be why Paddy Power is keeping the powder dry on any announcements in the Irish casino news and of course each State will be doing its own thing until National legislation is in place which does not look like happening any time soon even though the schedule for New Jersey is November this year. The potential of the US market is huge and if States such as California embrace the idea of legalizing online casinos it will become even bigger. Casinos.ie expects to see many more companies applying for licenses including those established land based casino operations who will then probably work together with casino software providers such as Playtech who have themselves been in the Irish casino news recently and any further movements will be reported on these pages.
